This study examines Rossini’s approach to vocal ensembles in Morceaux réservés from Péchés de vieillesse, as a significant expression of his post-operatic aesthetics. Through structural, stylistic, and hermeneutic analysis of seven vocal works, it explores the synthesis of Italian bel canto, reflective musical discourse, timbral individualization, and expressive autonomy within an intimate, non-scenic context. Particular attention is given to the relationship between poetic text and musical gesture, formal and harmonic organization, and instrumental accompaniment. These ensembles reveal a mature compositional aesthetic combining theatrical experience, expressive refinement, playfulness, erudition, and introspection, thus supporting a reassessment of Rossini’s late chamber music within nineteenth-century music history.
